How to Clean Dark Laminate Floors

Dark laminate flooring provides a rich stunning accent to any floor in the house. Unfortunately, dark floors tend to show dirt easily. Scuff marks, pet hair and water spots stick out like a glowing beacon on dark laminate. Cleaning laminate flooring is simple after you know what tools and cleaners to use.

Things You'll Need

• Dust mop or microfiber pad
• White vinegar
• Spray bottle
• Mop
• Clean soft rags

Instructions

1. Wipe dust from your dark laminate floor with a dust mop or microfiber pad that traps dust as you wipe.

2. Mix a solution of one part water and two parts white vinegar and place in a squirt bottle. Spray the vinegar solution on one 4-by-4-foot section of the laminate floor, then wipe away with a mop. The vinegar cuts and cleans any dirt that builds up on the laminate flooring. Continue moving across the floor, spraying in sections.

3. Dry the dark laminate floor with clean soft rags. Do not leave any moisture on the floors because it leaves white water marks on the dark laminate. Laminate flooring also absorbs liquid, which makes it swell.

Tips & Warnings

• If you choose not to use vinegar on your dark laminate flooring, look for cleaning sprays especially used for laminate flooring at your local lawn and garden store.

• Do not use abrasive cleaners or tools to clean laminate flooring.

• Do not allow the laminate floor to remain wet. Wipe up any spills immediately.

• Do not put wax or polish on your laminate flooring or try to sand or refinish it.
