How to Run a Summer Basketball Camp
Running a summer basketball camp is a fun and rewarding activity for basketball lovers who understand how to manage a camp well. However, just because a player or coach is a good basketball player, it does not mean that they have what it takes to conduct a thriving summer camp program. If you are willing to risk your own funds, learn systems to make your camp successful and create an event in which most of the players hope to come back to each year, you can run an excellent summer basketball camp.

1
Create a detailed list of each item you will need for your camp. Be sure you charge each player who comes to your camp enough money so that you will be able to cover all of your expenses. Remember to include the location of the camp, food and drink, jerseys, and trophies to encourage the campers who win the camp tournament.
-
2
Sign contracts with all vendors. Plan to secure your camp location at least 7 months or more in advance so that it is not taken. Make copies of all agreements, and refer to these copies if there is ever any lack of understanding between you and your vendors.

3
Locate an insurance company. Communicate with an insurance provider in your area regarding which policy is best for your camp. Let them know that you want to be covered in the event that a camper is injured, but that you will be shopping around for the best rates to ensure you get the best possible price.
-
4
Employ workers. Figure out what other basketball camps in your state are paying their workers, and make sure that you are offering a similar salary. Hire people who are good basketball players, play on a current college team, have played at a high level in the past, and are good at interacting with other people.
-
5
Have a plan for each day of the camp. Create a plan in advance that you, each camper, and worker in the camp is expected to follow. Include various drills such as passing, mastering layups, and playing as a team. Hold tournaments for each age level in which the winning team will be awarded a trophy. Let the campers vote for other people to get specific trophies, such as the most improved player award, best sixth man, and most valuable player.
