How to Care for a Hybrid Fuchsia Archie Owen
The hybrid "Archie Owen" is a trailing fuchsia. Its double corollas (bottom petals) with light pink sepals (top petals) create an elegant and delicate hanging potted plant. It grows flowers on new wood, so cutting back the plant at the end of every season is a must if you want to enjoy new flowers the following spring and summer. Fuchsias love damp, cool summers, making them especially suited for climates such as that of the Pacific Northwest. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

1
Hang this trailing fuchsia in partial shade. Archie Owen likes cool summer temperatures, and the flowers will burn in direct sunlight.
-
2
Feed the fuchsia a quick-release, water-soluble fertilizer once a week during its blooming season. Dilute the fertilizer to half-strength in the spring, fertilize at full strength during the summer and drop back to half-strength as the plant grows into the fall so it can harden off for winter storage.

-
3
Amend the soil with organic compost to provide the right amount of drainage. Fuchsias do not like wet feet.
-
4
Water the fuchsia so the soil is never allowed to dry out. Mist the leaves in very hot weather but don't expose wet flowers or foliage to direct sunlight.
-
5
Pinch the plant's terminal buds to create a bushier plant. Pinching off those buds will force a leggy plant to create more foliage rather than vines.
-
6
Remove dead flowers, seed pods and weak, diseased branches in the spring.
-
7
Cut back the plant in the late fall so the branches extend only slightly past the container's edge. Remove all the leaves and store the plant in a cool, dark place where it will not freeze. Keep the soil slightly moist throughout the winter; don't let it dry out completely.
-
8
Bring the plant back outside in the spring, remove any white shoots that have appeared and water well.
