If you are connecting your phone to your router, you probably know the function of a router. However, as a recap, your router is networking equipment that transmits information between computer networks and other devices to the Internet using an Internet connection. Your telephone is a device that you can connect to your router, sending your voice signal from your telephone into a digital signal that travels over the Internet. You can connect your router and phone in only a few minutes.

Step 1

Turn off your PC and DSL or cable modem.

Connect your Ethernet cable into the "Ethernet" port on the back of the router and the other end of the Ethernet cable into your DSL or cable modem. (Optional, and for if you already have high-speed internet set up.)

Step 3

Connect one end of the second Ethernet cable into the LAN port on the back of the router and the other to the Ethernet port on your computer.

Step 4

Insert the cable from your analog telephone into the Router & Phone Adapter port labelled "PHONE 1" on the back of the router.

Step 5

Turn your PC and modem back on to reset them and check for the green indicator lights.

Step 6

Plug your power adapter into the router. Make sure the status light turns green.

Step 7

Make a test call or listen for a dial tone. Your PC does not need to be on in order for you to make calls.
