There are several ways to get your favorite photographs onto your computer, for use on your Web page, holiday newsletter or personal greeting cards.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Ask your film developing company if it can transfer your photographs onto a PhotoCD. Most developers offer this service at a small additional charge.

  2. Step 2

Invest in a scanner. Scanners are easy to use and come with software; they can also make photocopies of other documents.

  3. Step 3

Purchase a digital camera. Digital cameras allow you to download the image you shoot straight to your computer and are specially designed for computer photography.

  4. Step 4

Take your photos to a professional print shop. The shop will scan your photos into a high-quality Web graphic format.

Tips & Warnings
  • Consult several computer magazines for reviews of scanners or digital cameras before you purchase.
  • Make sure your computer is compatible with any hardware you buy.
  • If your photograph is destined for your Web page, make sure it is scanned into a high-quality JPEG or GIF format.

on 9/12/2008 I'm not computer savy. Isn't there a book called "Hot to Use a Computer for Dummies?" emphasizing digital pictures and so forth. If anyone could help me on this I would deeply appreciate it. Thank you.
