How to Get Your AL GED
Obtaining a GED in the state of Alabama is a fairly straightforward task that requires only the proper information and preparation to complete successfully. The GED is intended for individuals who did not graduate from high school and wish to obtain the educational equivalent of a degree for future career prospects. The GED tests individuals in five different categories: language arts, science, social studies, reading and mathematics.

Ensure that you meet the minimum requirements. To be eligible to receive a GED in Alabama, you must be at least 18 years of age, a resident of the state, not be enrolled in any school that is part of the Alabama Department of Education and not have a high school degree.

Prepare for the examination. Head to a local bookstore or library and buy/borrow test preparation books that cover the materials that will be presented on the exam. You can also search the Internet to find practice tests and information regarding each of the sections.

Register to take the exam needed to receive the GED at a registered testing center in the area. To find the center closest to your current location, enter "Alabama registered testing center" into an Internet search engine. As of 2010, the test will cost $50 to take. If you need to retake a particular section, it will cost $10 per section.

Take and pass the examination. The scores on the exam range from 200 to 800 per section, and a score of 410 is required on each section to pass. Overall, you must average a score of 450 on each section to pass the exam. If you do not pass the first time, you must wait at least six weeks before you can retake a section.
