How to Get Help in Windows

There are three different ways to find the help you want in Windows: through the table of contents, through the index, or by searching. You can also use "Troubleshooters" to diagnose a variety of problems.

These instructions are for Windows 98.

Things You'll Need:

  • Microsoft Windows

    Windows 98 Troubleshooters

  1. Step 1

    Open the Start menu and choose Help.

  2. Step 2

    Click on the Contents tab.

  3. Step 3

    Click on Troubleshooting. Click on one of the items that appears. The information will appear on the right side of the help window.

  4. Using the Table of Contents

  5. Step 1

    From the Start menu, click on Help. A window will open.

  6. Step 2

    Click on the Contents tab.

  7. Step 3

    Click on any item in the Table of Contents to produce a broader menu.

  8. Step 4

    Click a help topic, and the information will appear on the right side of the help window.

  9. The Search Function and the Index

  10. Step 1

    Open the Start menu and choose Help.

  11. Step 2

    Click on the Search tab for the search function.

  12. Step 3

    Enter a word or phrase that describes the topic you're looking for. Click on List Topics. A list of topics will appear in the box below.

  13. Step 4

    Select the one that interests you, then click on Display. The information appears on the right side of the help window.

  14. Step 5

    Reopen the Start menu and choose Help.

  15. Step 6

    Click on the Index tab to use the index. You can either scroll through the list or type in a keyword that you want to find.

  16. Step 7

    When the keyword is located, select it, then click on Display. The information appears on the right side of the help window.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your search is not successful, try using a different keyword.
  • Search is useful when you have a very specific keyword you're looking for.
  • Many people find the index is the best way to find help topics. The results are more targeted than with the Search or Browse tabs.

I know it is simple. Please help.....
