How to Upgrade Windows 98SE to Windows XP Pentium MMX

Upgrading your Pentium MMX computer from Windows98SE to Windows XP will enable you to experience the additional security features embedded in the Windows XP operating system, such as Windows Firewall. The upgrade process can be accomplished in around 20 to 60 minutes, depending on the speed of your hard drive and the clock speed of your MMX processor.

• Windows XP installation disk

Instructions

1. Insert the Windows XP CD in the computer.

2. Click "Start", select "Run", type "cmd" and press "Enter".

3. Type "cd i386", press "Enter", type "winnt32 /checkupgradeonly" and press "Enter" again. This will check to ensure that your old Pentium MMX processor can run Windows XP.

4. Click on the option to "Install XP".

5. Select "Upgrade" from the drop-down box.

6. Click the button to accept the license terms and enter your product ID.

7. Press "Next" to begin the upgrade.
