The stereo system in a Cadillac DeVIlle consists of the radio unit in the instrument panel and car speakers in the front and the rear doors. You can remove any of these components by themselves, whether you need to remove one piece or all of them for replacement. There can be a number of reasons why you might need to remove the DeVille's stereo, but replacing it is the most common reason.

Radio Unit

Step 1

Disconnect the car battery's negative cable to shut off the power.

Step 2

Pry off the trim bezel surrounding the radio using a trim stick or similar flat-bladed tool. This bezel will surround the radio only on older models or the radio and other components like the AC controls on newer models.

Step 3

Remove the mounting fasteners for the radio; depending on the model, this may require a small wrench or a screwdriver.

Step 4

Pull the radio unit out of its mount until you can reach the back end of it. Disconnect the antenna lead and the electrical connectors from the radio unit and lift it out of the instrument panel.

Front Speakers

Step 1

Lower the car's windows all the way and then disconnect the negative battery cable.

Step 2

Unscrew and remove the trim bezel around the door handle using a screwdriver, then rotate the lock knob counterclockwise or detach the lock clip with the screwdriver and remove the screw from the lock knob's opening.

Step 3

Pry off the door panel at its retaining clips using a trim stick or other flat-bladed tool, then pull the trim panel up and off the door.

Step 4

Remove the retaining screws for the speaker with a screwdriver, pull the speaker out of the door and unplug its electrical connector from behind.

Rear Speakers

Step 1

Detach the clips for the rear seat's seat back using a screwdriver inserted between the seat back and the rear shelf. Lift the seat back out of the car.

Step 2

Push onward on the two clips located at the base of the seat cushion and lift the cushion up to remove it.

Step 3

Lift and remove the rear package shelf from the car.

Step 4

Remove the mounting fasteners for the speaker; these might be screws, clips or plastic retainers, depending on the model year of your DeVille. Remove the speaker and disconnect the electrical connector.
