How to Interview Through Podcasting
Podcasts are an increasingly popular medium for web broadcasting. With the success of blogs and online news sites, podcasts allow people to host their own online radio shows and broadcast news services. Interviewing people from separate locations is made easy with podcasting. The podcasts can then be hosted on your website, on dedicated servers or iTunes. All you need is some equipment to record the interview and format it in podcasting-appropriate audio formats and a way to upload the files to the Internet.

Add a USB headset to your computer. A USB headset frees your hands and makes the audio clearer when recording podcasts. You can purchase a USB headset online or at an electronics or computer store.

Get audio-recording software such as Soundflower or Garage Band. You can buy and download audio-recording software online or buy it from a computer store. Install the software on your computer. Once it is finished installing, open the application on your computer.

Determine how you are going to interview and record your subject. If she is in the same location as you, you can just connect another USB headset for her to use. Or else you can call her on the phone or use software like Skype or iChat. If you use the phone, you will need a digital telephone hybrid that will record the other end of the interview with good audio quality. This method can get expensive.

Connect with the interviewee on the telephone or through Skype or iChat. Press the "Record" on your audio-recording software and conduct the interview. When it is over, press the "Stop" button to stop the recording.

Edit the interview podcast with audio-editing software. You can use Audacity or Sony Sound Forge. Edit out the parts of the interview that you don't want to have in the podcast. Save the file as a MP3.

Upload the audio file to a web server, iTunes or whatever you are using to host the podcasts.
