Dye rabbit fur

Rabbit fur is an exceptionally soft pelt that many people love to use for clothing articles. Rabbit fur comes in many colors, one common color is white. A white fur can get stained if not taken care of properly, but the garment doesn't have to be trashed. Dyed the fur a different color, one that will mask the stain.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill the basin with warm water and add the appropriate color of dye.

    • 2

Brush the rabbit fur with the soft hair brush to remove any loose hair or dirt. Once finished, place the fur into the basin containing the dye.

    • 3

Remove the fur after about 45 minutes and rinse with cool water. If the color isn't intense enough, place the rabbit fur into the dye for another 15 minutes.

    • 4

Air dry the fur, then dry brush it once again with the hair brush. This will allow the fur strands to separate from each other and take on their original full, soft appearance.

    • 5

Work the fur by folding it and moving it back and forth by hand. This will ensure that the leather stays supple and doesn't become stiff from drying too quickly.

Tips & Warnings

  • Choose the dye color carefully if using a white fur. White fur may result in a much more vibrant shade than that depicted on the box.

  • Never use hot water to dye the fur, this will cause the leather to shrink and become distorted.

  • This project should be undertaken with the utmost care or permanent damage can occur to the fur. For this reason, people who do not have experience dealing with fur and leather should not undertake this type of project.
