How to Get Your GED in Maryland
If you live in Maryland and did not complete high school, you can earn the equivalent of a diploma by passing the GED exam in Maryland. Having a GED will show employers that you have the same knowledge as a typical high school graduate. The GED exam consists of five tests that cover language arts (writing), social studies, science, language arts (reading) and mathematics.

Determine if you are eligible to take the GED exam in Maryland. You need to be at least 16 years old and have been a resident of the state for at least three months.

Go to the Maryland Adult Literacy Resource Center web page and click on the "GED Test Application" link (see Resources).

Complete the application and mail it to The GED Office, 1100 North Eutaw St., Room 121, Baltimore, MD 21202. You will need to include the $45 scheduling fee with your application and a photocopy of your Maryland driver's license, permit or Maryland ID issued by Motor Vehicles or an active military duty ID. Make the check or money order payable to the GED Office.

Wait to receive a GED testing notification letter in the mail. The letter should be delivered by the 5th day of the month you chose to take the GED exam on the application.

Study for the GED exam by taking practice tests, using GED study guides and taking any study classes that are available.

Go to the testing center you chose on the application and take the GED exam on your scheduled day.

Tips & Warnings
If you are currently enrolled in high school or have already graduated from high school, you cannot take the GED exam.
