How to Get a GED in Texas
Getting a GED in Texas is a fairly straightforward process that can be completed with the necessary preparations. For those individuals who did not graduate from high school, a GED is an alternative that signals that you have completed the educational equivalent of a high school degree. In order to receive a GED, you must pass a comprehensive examination that covers language arts reading, language arts writing, social studies, science and mathematics.

Meet the minimum requirements to receive a GED. In the state of Texas, you must be at least 18 years of age, be a resident of the state of Texas, have withdrawn from high school at least six months prior to applying and not be a high school graduate.

Prepare for the test. Head to a local library or bookstore and borrow/buy GED practice materials. There are many different companies that provide testing supplements; choose one or two and begin studying.

Register to take the exam at any Texas official testing center. To find the one closest to you, type "official Texas testing center" into an Internet search engine and the address listings will come up. The fees for the exam will vary depending on the location, so call in advance to ensure you can afford to take the test. You must also bring a form of photo identification and your Social Security number with you to registration.

Take and pass the examination. The scores range anywhere from 200 to 800 points per section. The minimum amount of points that must be scored in each section is 410. The total score needed on the entire examination is 2050. Full and partial retakes (just sections that were failed) are allowed after the examination is taken.
