How Can I Get a Copy of My Lost HS Diploma?

A high school diploma can hold sentimental value.

Although you don't necessarily need a copy of your high school to apply for jobs, it often holds a sentimental value that makes it worth holding on to. If you lost your diploma or it is damaged, it's possible to get a copy of it simply by asking. Sometimes you have to pay a processing fee, other times your high school may provide a new copy free of charge. Once you get a new copy, though, it's best to place it in a safe place.

• Graduation year

Instructions

1. Contact the alumni services department at the high school you attended. Make sure you have your full name (including maiden name if your name has been changed since graduation), contact information and graduation year ready.

2. Request a new copy of your high school diploma. Your high school will ask you for the information above. If you have to pay a fee, ask where to send a check or request to pay over the phone. Or, if you live near your high school, go in to the school and pay.

3. Wait for the high school diploma to be mailed to you or pick it up yourself. If your school does not provide copies of past high school diplomas and you need it for job application or other business-related purposes, request a copy of your transcripts as an alternative.
