Clean cartridges with a built-in printer feature.

Printers that are suffering in quality or appear too light may require a cleaning. The cleaning process allows the printer ink to properly flow from the cartridges to the nozzle and be applied to paper. Many printers, including the Epson Stylus Photo R300, have a cleaning feature built-in to the hardware. Use of this feature is typical maintenance for a printer.

Instructions

  1. Clean your print head with Epson Stylus Photo R300

    • 1

Make sure the printer is on but not in use. The red error light must be off, and if it is on or flashing, you may need to replace the ink cartridge. You'll know the printer is on if you see a green light on the dashboard.

    • 2

Press the button that looks like a down arrow in a circle on the printer's console. Highlight "More Options" and press the "OK" button.

    • 3

Use the up and down arrow buttons to find "Head Cleaning" and press "OK" again. Press "OK" once more to begin the printer head cleaning process. This will display a progress bar on the display, and will take about 30 seconds.

    • 4

Press the arrows on the dashboard to find "Nozzle Check" once the cleaning process completes. Press "OK" to print the test pattern.

    • 5

Examine the printed pattern. If the lines appear to have missing gaps or dots, press "Stop" to clean the print head again. If the test pattern looks fine, then press "OK" to finish.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't run a head cleaning until you notice your print quality is diminished. It will use up some ink from your cartridges.

  • A flashing red light indicates you can't clean the print head. You likely need to replace the ink cartridge.
