How to Repair an Upright Whirlpool Washer Water Pump
Repairing the water pump of the upright Whirlpool washer is a job that can be completed in about an hour. The easiest and most efficient way to repair the water pump is just to replace the unit. Whirlpool upright washers are fairly simple to take apart, providing you access to the interior parts such as the water pump. You can repair the pump yourself and save the expense of calling a repairman to fix the washer. Does this Spark an idea?

Unplug the electrical cord of the upright Whirlpool washer from the electrical outlet before attempting to repair the water pump.

Locate the screws on the front of the control console and remove them with a screwdriver, flipping the console back so that it rests against the rear hinges.

Detach the lid switch on the top of the washer near the back by hand and use a screwdriver to lift the metal clips up that are holding the top lid to the cabinet.

Pull the top lid forward away from the washer cabinet, setting the top aside and locate the water pump in the front of the cabinet at the bottom.

Remove any excess water from the water pump by using a WetVac, placing the vacuum over the drain hose and emptying the pump of water.

Slide the metal clips off the water pump and remove the pump from the motor shaft, detaching the hoses from the pump by unfastening the hose clamps with a screwdriver and pulling them off by hand.

Attach the hoses to the new water pump, securing them with the screw clamps and place the new pump onto the motor shaft, fastening the metal clips over the pump by hand.

Place the top lid back over the washer base and secure the metal clips on the top near the back, snapping them into position by hand.

Plug the lid switch back into the top of the lid near the back by hand and flip the control console back down, securing the console with screws.

Plug the electrical cord of the upright Whirlpool washer into the electrical outlet.

Never attempt to repair the Whirlpool washer water pump while the appliance is plugged into the power source.
