How to Paint Vinyl Vertical Blinds

Add new life to your blinds with paint

One of the most creative ways to add new life to your home is to replace the window treatments, including the vinyl blinds. Unfortunately, new blinds can be very expensive and if you are redecorating your entire home, new blinds can cost hundreds of dollars. Add a little life to your old vinyl blinds by painting them to fit into your home's new color scheme.

Things You'll Need

• Soft cloth
• Water
• Paintbrushes
• Primer
• Oil-based paint

Instructions

1. Remove any dirt or debris from the blind with a soft cloth that has been soaked in water. Allow the blinds to dry.

2. Disassemble the blinds by removing the cap from the bottom of the cord and untying the cords. Carefully slide each of the slats from the cord.

3. Cover each of the slats with a coat of primer. This will help the paint adhere to the blinds more easily. Paint one side at a time and allow it to dry before painting the other side.

4. Paint each of the slats with the chosen paint color. Apply the paint in the same fashion as you applied the primer. Allow the paint to dry.

5. Apply another coat of paint, if desired.

6. Place the slats back onto the cord and tie a knot at the ends. Place the plug back onto the bottom rail and hang the blinds back on the windows.
