How to Make a Paper Pop Gun

Origami is the art of making different things out of paper. You can make a paper "pop gun” that will make a popping sound when you give it a shake. You will not need any special tools or supplies other than a sheet of paper and a few minutes of your time. Your paper gun won’t look like a real weapon or actually shoot, but it will stimulate the imagination of the one holding it.

Instructions

    • 1

Put a sheet of paper on a table with the long end facing you. Fold the long end facing you up toward the middle of the sheet of paper. Crease the long end down with your fingers. Unfold the long end.

    • 2

Repeat this process with the long end of the sheet of paper farthest from you.

    • 3

Fold in each edge of the sheet of paper toward the center. Flatten the edges down with your fingers.

    • 4

Fold the right side of the sheet of paper over to the left side. Flatten the right side down with your fingers.

    • 5

Pull out the flap of paper that is inside of the left side of the sheet of paper with your fingers.

    • 6

Turn the sheet of paper over. Flatten the flap of paper that was pulled out.

    • 7

Fold the long end of the sheet of paper farthest from you over to the long end of the sheet of paper closest to you.

    • 8

Hold the lower right edge of the sheet of paper that you have now made into a paper pop gun. Drop your hand down quickly while holding onto the lower right edge to make your paper pop gun emit a popping sound.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can use construction paper if you want your paper pop gun to be more sturdy.

  • Don't "pop" your paper pop gun against a person's ear—the sound can hurt his eardrum.
