Epoxy paints are popular for floors because of their sharp look and incredible durability. Unfortunately, it is this same impressive durability that makes it difficult to paint over epoxy surfaces during remodeling projects. If you're planning to paint over epoxy paint, there are a few things you need to know before you get started. The following steps will help guide you.
Step 1
Remove any dirt or gooey material from the epoxy painted surface using a metal putty knife. Use a chemical degreasing agent and a coarse broom or brush to scrub greasy areas clean. Thoroughly wash the entire concrete floor with soapy water. Use a fan and towels to dry the floor completely.

Step 2
Mix the epoxy resin with the catalyst in your five-gallon bucket with a stir stick. Add any pigment that may be included with your kit. Dip your roller into the mixture. Roll the mixture onto the epoxy painted surface starting at one corner and moving left to right.
Step 3
Proceed from left to right. Cover the epoxy paint completely with the epoxy mixture. Allow the surface to dry for a full 24 hours and then apply a second coat. Sprinkle the epoxy texture onto the surface before the second coat dries.
