How to Make Haunted House Effects
Haunted house effects don't have to be expensive, and there are actually many effects that you can do yourself with a little creativity. Most haunted house effects are created through the use of lighting, sounds, and props. The only things you may need to buy or rent are a digital projector and a fog machine, but other than that the ambiance can be created with old sheets, colored light bulbs and a few digital sounds. Replace light bulbs with colored ones, or with black lights. Aim portable shop lights at haunted props. If you don't have shop lights you can place flashlights in special areas. Use Christmas lights to create dramatic effects for certain areas.

Add fog to your yard, the haunted house, around your props and in your graveyard. Use a small fog machine, which you can rent or buy.

Rent a projector and display scary eyes, ghosts, and images from your computer onto a screen placed behind a window. This will look like the images are coming from the haunted house.

Place props in strategic places. Props--which can be as simple or as complicated as you want--can be things like smoking cauldrons, coffins, headstones, skeletons, monsters and such. You can either buy these or make them yourself.

Add eerie sounds. You can find albums at music stores or in Halloween accessory stores. You can also buy haunted sounds at online music stores, or for download them for free on websites like Frightfx.com or HauntedBay.com.

Cover up the white walls with sheets dyed in black dye or black plastic sheeting. Cover windows with cardboard and sheets to make the house darker.
