How to Add Transmission Fluid to a Honda Passport
Many cars have a transmission fluid dip stick that can be easily removed for refilling automatic or manual transmission fluid. Honda Passports have sealed transmissions, however, and therefore do not have a transmission fluid dip stick. The process of adding transmission fluid to a Honda Passport is slightly more complicated and involves removing the transmission fluid pan and pumping fluid into the pan’s filler hole while working under the car.

Put on protective gloves and protective eyewear. Because you will need to fill the transmission fluid from the under the car, there is a chance that the fluid could overflow and splash. Transmission fluid can damage the eye and irritate the skin, so take proper safety precautions to prevent injury.

Put your car into park and engage the emergency break. Your car does not need to be running to simply add additional transmission fluid. However you should engage the emergency brake as an added safety precaution while you are under the car.

Loosen the bottom bolt on the transmission fluid pan with a wrench. The bottom bolt will allow you to remove the filler.

Remove the plug in the filler. You should be able to twist the plug out of the filler with your fingers. If you can't untwist it with your hands, use a wrench.

Insert a hand pump with a 1/2-inch extension tube into the fill plug. Pump transmission fluid into the fill plug until transmission fluid begins to run down the sides of the hole.

Replace the fill-plug and re-tightened the lower bolt with a wrench.

Tips & Warnings
Because of the complex nature of the process, Honda recommends only changing the transmission fluid if you drive your Honda under strenuous conditions. Additionally, if you are unfamiliar with automotive repair or working under a car, you may want to consider taking your Passport to an authorized mechanic to add transmission fluid.
