A well-written cover letter can help you achieve professional success.

Obtaining a position as a vice president in a company is most likely a big step forward in your career. The vice president has many important responsibilities, such as supervising fellow executives, delegating important tasks and managing company affairs. Before you can obtain this position, you'll first need to write a cover letter that demonstrates your experience and necessary skills.

Instructions

    • 1

Set up your cover letter. Type your address and the date you send the cover letter at the top left of the page. Skip one space, and type the name of the recipient, his title, the company's name and the company's address. Skip one space, and type a professional greeting, such as "Dear Mr. Jones."

    • 2

Write the first paragraph. In the first paragraph, say that you're applying for the position of vice president. If you heard of the job through someone in the company or from a recruiter, include this information, as well. Take one or two sentences to explain the specific reasons why you feel you are a qualified candidate for the vice president position.

    • 3

Include more reasons why you're qualified for the position of vice president in the second paragraph. For each qualification you list, include a specific job, project or accomplishment that demonstrates that qualification. For example, if you state that you're able to achieve financial results for the company, follow this statement with a situation where you were able to do so in a previous position. This paragraph should include at least three specific situations that demonstrate your qualifications for the vice president position.

    • 4

Write the final paragraph. This should mention that your resume is enclosed for review, and request the opportunity to come in for an interview to discuss your qualifications in more detail. You can also let the recipient know when you're available to come in for an interview. Don't forget to thank the recipient for taking time to review your resume and for her consideration.

    • 5

Type out a professional closing, such as Sincerely" or "Best regards," one space after the last paragraph. Skip four lines, and type your name. The space in between is where you sign your name. Skip a few more spaces and type "Enclosure," referring to your resume.
