How to Hook Up a Durabrand Home Theater System STS 96 thumbnail
Connect a TV to a Durabrand system for a quick home theater setup.

Durabrand is a generic electronics label sold at a budget price at Wal-Mart stores. Home theater systems sold under the Durabrand label are designed with color-coded speaker cables and plugs to match the connection jacks, so setup is fast and simple. The 100-watt receiver component in the Durabrand STS 96 system includes a built-in DVD player--just connect a television for a complete home theater that's ready to play in less than a half hour.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the labeled speakers around the room, setting the front left and right speakers on each side of the TV and the center speaker either below or above the TV. The two rear surround speakers should be placed behind the main seating area. Set the subwoofer on the floor out of the way, but not pressed against a wall, which can absorb the sub's low-frequency bass output.

    • 2

Connect the color-coded plug on the end of each attached speaker cable and subwoofer to the matching jack on the back of the Durabrand receiver.

    • 3

Insert one end of the video cable into the video-out jack on the back of the Durabrand receiver and connect the other end to a video-input jack on the back panel of the TV.

    • 4

Plug in the equipment and turn on the power, then press the TV remote control "Input" button until the Durabrand image appears on the screen.

Tips & Warnings

  • Plan speaker placement so that the permanently attached cables can reach the receiver.

  • All Durabrand home-theater-in-a-box systems use color-coded speaker cables and can be hooked up to the receiver in the same manner as the STS 96.

  • Connect the speaker cables to the receiver before plugging the Durabrand STS 96 into the electricity.

there is a digital audio out on the sts96 system. Is it possible to hook up any digital speakers? I've not found any that work.
