When the brake light goes out in your 2002 Saturn SL2, it will need to be changed or you risk getting a warning ticket and possibly a fine if it isn't done in a reasonable amount of time. You can certainly take it in to any repair shop to have this done, but it will cost you in labor charges. However, if you have even a bit of do-it-yourself experience, you will be able to do this job yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the trunk on the 2002 Saturn SL2.

    • 2

Locate the screws for the lens cover assembly, which will be beneath the trunk lip on the body of the car.

    • 3

Remove the screws with your Torx screwdriver by turning them counterclockwise. Place them on the side.

    • 4

Carefully pull the lens cover light assembly out and away from the Saturn. The assembly will be attached by wires, so go easy as you pull it out and away from the car.

    • 5

Flip the assembly over so the back faces you. The center bulb holder will be the one that contains the brake light. Grab and twist it a half-turn counterclockwise to remove the bulb holder.

    • 6

Pull the bulb straight out from the bulb holder and push the new bulb in firmly. Have another person step on the brake pedal to be sure the brake light goes on.

    • 7

Replace the lens cover assembly in the exact order that it came out. Close the trunk when finished.
