How to Make Sure the Wireless Switch on Your Computer Is on

Certain types of computers today (mainly laptops but some desktops as well) have a switch that activates and deactivates the wireless networking capabilities of the machine. This switch is in place to allow you to disconnect immediately from a network if you feel so inclined. You can also disable the wireless networking card to save battery life or use less power. To make sure your computer's wireless switch is on, you'll need to look for the indicator light.

Locate the wireless switch on your computer. Typically, you'll find this switch on the very front of the laptop's case. On desktop computers the wireless switch is typically located on the rear of the unit. If you're having trouble locating your wireless switch, consult your computer's manual.

Look at the indicator light next to the wireless switch. If this indicator light is on, then your wireless switch is on. If this indicator light is not on, flip the switch to turn it on and enable wireless connections on your computer.

Look for a wireless button (if applicable). Certain models of laptop computer have replaced the wireless switch with a wireless button. If your computer has a button and not a switch, the same rules apply—if the indicator light is off, press the button to turn on the wireless capabilities of your computer.
