Bike helmet lights increase safety.

Building your own bike helmet light is fairly easy and doesn't require any expertise with lighting, materials or money. It is important that you have a bike helmet light, especially if you ride at night, in order to improve visibility. Having light on your helmet means that you'll be able to see where you are going, and those around you will be able to spot you.

Instructions

    • 1

Install batteries into two small, LED flashlights and make sure the flashlights are in good working order. The size and number of batteries needed will depend on the type of flashlight you have.

    • 2

Fit the flashlights into one of the openings at the top of your bike helmet to see how tightly the flashlight fits into the aperture. If your helmet does not have apertures, or you don't want to install the lights in this fashion, skip to step 5.

    • 3

Wrap masking tape around the handle of the flashlights until they fit into the aperture of your helmet tightly.

    • 4

Apply more masking tape around the aperture, both inside and outside the helmet, to ensure that the flashlight won't fall out or move around while you are riding.

    • 5

Wrap masking tape around both flashlights so that they are tightly wrapped to each other and facing the same direction.

    • 6

Attach the flashlights to the top of your helmet using plenty of masking tape so that the flashlights don't fall off or move around while you are riding.
