Burning text files to a CD can be very helpful if you need to transport text files from one location to another, such as from home to work, or if you'd like to give a copy of your text files to someone else. Using Windows 7, the process can be completed without the need for third-party software.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert a blank CD into your CD-RW or DVD-RW drive. A window will open asking whether you wish to burn an audio CD or burn files to a disc. Click "Burn files to disc."

    • 2

Type a name for your CD next to "Disc title:" The bubble next to "With a CD/DVD player," should be selected by default. If it not, click inside the bubble. Click "Next."

    • 3

A window with the currently empty contents of your CD or DVD burner will open. Leave that window open. On a different window, locate the text files you wish to burn. Position the two windows next to each other to make dragging files from one window to the other easier.

    • 4

Drag the text files you wish to burn into the disc folder. Once you've dragged all the text files you will be burning into the disc folder, click "Burn Disc," near the top left of the window.

    • 5

You will be given the option to edit the name you previously chose for the CD, and the option to choose the recording speed. Change the name of your CD if you wish but leave the recording speed at the number which it defaults to. Click "Next." Your text files will begin to be written to the CD and you a progress bar will inform you of the burning process. When finished, the CD will auto eject.
