How to Clean a Soft Leather Couch

A few simple cleaning steps will keep your soft leather couch looking good.

Soft leather furniture is a low-maintenance way to add a classy touch to your home. Leather is great for homes with kids or pets, as spills, dirt and pet hair tend to stay right on the surface. An additional advantage is that maintenance is simple. Vacuum your leather couch on a regular basis, and wipe with a damp cloth to remove any dirt or stains.

Things You'll Need

• Mild detergent
• Bucket
• Microfiber cloths
• Towel
• Vacuum nozzle attachment

Instructions

1. Move your leather couch away from the wall if necessary. Remove any cushions and pillows.

2. Vacuum the entire surface of the couch, including the back, sides and armrests, with the hose. Get down into any cracks with a nozzle attachment.

3. Fill a bucket with warm water and a few drops of mild detergent. Wipe down the couch and cushions with a microfiber cloth and soapy water. Squeeze the cloth out in the bucket to avoid soaking the leather.

4. Empty and refill the bucket with water. Rinse the couch of any soap residue with a clean, damp microfiber cloth and plain water. Remember not to soak the leather in water.

5. Wipe the couch quickly with a towel to dry. Get down into any cracks or small areas where water can pool. Dry and replace the cushions.
