How to Make a Pyramid Head Costume

Pyramid Head is a menacing character from the Silent Hill video game series and the film of the same name. This monster appears as shirtless man wearing an apron made from a material that resembles human flesh and a large pyramid shaped headpiece that completely obscures his face. Some versions of Pyramid Head appear with a black headpiece while others wear brown or red pyramids so you can customize the color of the headpiece to match your favorite version of this frightening character.

Things You'll Need

• Craft foam
• Craft Knife
• Pen
• Duct tape
• Bicycle helmet
• Plaster cloth
• Water
• Sheer black cloth
• Scissors
• Spray adhesive
• Black paint
• Fabric

Instructions

1. Cut craft foam into one triangle with three equal 20-inch sides.

2. Draw a right angle on another piece of craft foam with the vertical line extending 20 inches and the horizontal line extending 30 inches. Connect these lines to form a triangle. Cut two triangles of these dimensions out of the craft foam.

3. Tape the edges of the three foam triangles together to form a pyramid with duct tape.

4. Put on a bicycle helmet or a football helmet with a chin strap and secure the strap. Place the pyramid on top of the helmet so that it rests on your shoulders and secure the inside of the pyramid to the helmet with duct tape. Remove the helmet and attached pyramid and add more duct tape to hold the pyramid in place.

5. Put the helmet and pyramid back on and mark the outside of the foam where your eyes are located. Remove the pyramid and cut a rectangle out of the foam with a utility knife so you can see while wearing the costume. Make the rectangle large enough so that you can see easily and don't worry about cutting through the corner of the pyramid, you will reinforce this area later.

6. Cut plaster cloth into strips and dip them in water. Apply these strips to the corners and sides of the pyramid to make the headpiece stronger and add texture. Do not cover the the eye hole with plaster. Let the plaster cloth dry completely.

7. Cut a piece of sheer black cloth one to two inches larger than the eye hole you created. Make sure that you can see through the cloth when you hold it up to your face. This will allow you to see while wearing the costume without ruining the effect of the large pyramid headpiece.

8. Apply spray adhesive to the pyramid around the eye hole and smooth the sheer black cloth into place so that it covers the hole and sticks to the adhesive.

9. Paint the pyramid with black paint but avoid getting paint on the sheer fabric. If you paint the fabric, you will no longer be able to see through it. Let the paint dry completely to complete your Pyramid Head headpiece.

10. Purchase approximately two yards of fabric in a flesh tone color, smooth vinyl fabrics work well for this apron, and cut the fabric into large pieces.

11. Sew the fabric pieces back together using large crude stitches to create a rectangle large enough to reach from your waist to the floor and wrap approximately 3/4 around your body.

12. Sew leftover scraps of fabric to the top sides of the apron to make ties. These fabric pieces should each be two inches wide and at least 12-inches long.

13. Cut the shape of the large sword that Pyramid Head carries out of a piece of cardboard and paint it with rust colored paint.

Tips & Warnings

• Pyramid Head is shirtless but you can wear a tight fitting skin tone T-shirt if you prefer.

• Dye a plain white cotton apron by soaking it in a large pot of tea for several hours instead of making an apron yourself. This will give the apron a dingy and brown appearance. Add stitches with a black marker and smear fake blood onto the apron to add character.
