Paint mist can accidentally land on furniture when you are using spray paint and a breeze blows small paint droplets onto uncovered furniture. Normally wet paint can be removed without much problem, but dried paint needs to be softened before removal so you will not scratch the furniture's surface.   • Rags
  • Soft cloths
  • Mineral spirits
  • Cooking pot
  • Linseed oil
  • Water
  • Putty knife
  • Furniture wax or polish

Instructions

      Wipe wet latex paint mist from furniture with a damp rag. After removing paint, dry with a clean cloth.

      For oil-based paint, dip a clean cloth in mineral spirits and apply to wet paint mist. Wipe the paint from the furniture and wipe again with a clean cloth. Apply furniture wax if needed.

      For dried paint mist, place 2 to 3 teaspoons of linseed oil into a cooking pot with 1 quart of water. Bring the mixture to a boil.

      Remove the pot from the heat and place a clean rag into the linseed oil water. When the rag is soaked, remove from the pot with tongs and place on the paint mist on the furniture. Allow the rag to remain on the paint spots for 10 to 15 minutes. The linseed oil and the heat from the rag should loosen dried paint mist.

      Remove the rag and scrape the paint mist from the furniture with a putty knife. Scrape gently so you don't scratch the surface of the furniture.

      Wipe the furniture with a clean damp rag after removing all the paint mist. Dry with a soft cloth and apply furniture wax or polish.
