How to Check for a Real Estate License in Florida thumbnail
Florida makes it easy to check for real estate licenses.

Checking the status of a real estate license in Florida is easy. The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation maintains a public database of all licensed professionals and businesses in the state. You can access the database at any time free of charge to check on a real estate license. The quickest way to do this is to go to the department's website, but you can also get the information by calling the department, sending an e-mail query, or submitting a written request by regular mail.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the official website for the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (see References). Click on the "VERIFY A LICENSE" tab at the top of the page (next to the "HOME" tab).

    • 2

Click on the appropriate button to search for the real estate license in question. You can search by name, license number, city or county, or license type.

    • 3

Contact the department's Customer Contact Center to check a Florida real estate license over the phone. As of April 2010, the phone number is 850-487-1395, and the center is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Be prepared to provide the clerk with a name, license number, applicable city or county, or license type. The clerk will look up the current status of the license while you're on the phone.

Send e-mail inquiries to Call.Center@dbpr.state.fl.us. Provide as much information as possible about the license, and be sure to include your daytime phone number. You will receive an e-mail response, or a clerk may call you for additional information.

Send regular mail inquiries by submitting a letter to the department that identifies a licensee's name, a license number, the applicable city or county, or a license type. Be sure to include your name, phone number, and return address. Mail the request to the following address:

Department of Business and Professional Regulation
      1940 North Monroe Street
      Tallahassee, FL 32399-0786

Allow a few weeks for a response.
