How to Install an RV Sewer Vent

One of the biggest, but easiest to fix, problems while traveling in an RV is odors coming out of the holding tanks while driving. As you drive, pressure builds on the rooftop tank vents, forcing odors into your RV. This is not a problem in a unit you're towing until you park and enter the vehicle, but it is always a potential issue in an RV because you ride in the unit itself. Fortunately, installing an RV sewer vent is an easy fix.

Things You'll Need

• Ladder
• T vent
• Clear silicone sealant
• Screening
• Wire ties
• Scissors

Instructions

1. Climb on the roof of the RV, using a ladder. Twist off the cap from the gray water tank vent and remove it.

2. Apply clear silicone sealant around the groove inside the vent.

3. Push the T vent into place where you unscrewed the cap. Turn the T vent so the openings are facing forward and backward.

4. Cut screening to fit over the openings, using scissors.

5. Secure the screening with wire ties. This will keep bugs out.
