How to Make Gift Boxes Out of Old Christmas Cards
Recycle old Christmas cards into small gift boxes. The front of the card makes the decorative box cover, while the inside of the card creates the actual box. When the recipient of the box opens the gift, the card's inscription appears on the bottom of the box's interior. In some cases, this is ideal, but if you would prefer no writing on the inside of the box, substitute blank cardboard for that piece. While the following instructions are for a thin box, increase the one-half inch folds equally to make a deeper, narrower box.

Cut the card in half, cutting along the fold. You will end up with two pieces, the front of the card and the back of the card.

Cut about one-eighth inch off one side and one end of the back piece. The reason for trimming the back half is to make it smaller, so that the lid will fit on the box.

Fold each end, and each side of both pieces one-half inch. After making each fold, run a ruler over the fold to make a crease, and then unfold and do the next side, until all four sides of each card half has a one-half-inch crease.

Look at an unfolded piece and note the square crease located at each corner of each piece, created by completing the previous step.

Cut with a scissors one line of each square, making the cut from the narrow ends of the pieces. This will create little tabs.

Lay each card half upside-down, so you are looking at the sides which will be the interior of the box.

Fold the box into place by bringing up the creased sides and tucking the tabs (created in the previous step) on the inside of the box and taping into place.

Place the box cover atop the box bottom.
