By maximizing, you make a window fit the full size of your monitor, with the exception of the taskbar. This gives you a larger area to read or to work on your file. These instructions are for Windows 98.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Microsoft Windows
  1. Step 1

    Open a window.

  2. Step 2

Look at the three small squares in the top right corner of the window's title bar.

  3. Step 3

Click the middle square, which looks like a picture of one blank window. The window will maximize, or fill your screen.

  4. Step 4

To restore the window to its previous size, click on the middle square again. (Now it looks like two overlapping blank windows.)

Tips & Warnings
  • If you accidentally click on the small square with an X inside, your window will close. Unsaved work could be lost.

on 12/28/2005 You can also double-click the bar across the top of the window to maximize. Doing this again will bring the window back to it's original size.
