Draw a peace sign

British artist Gerald Holtom first created the peace sign in 1958. It originally stood for nuclear disarmament by combining the letters "N" and "D" of the Navy's semaphore code to create the symbol. Once the symbol migrated to the United States, it quickly became known worldwide as an icon for freedom and peace.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a circle on the paper. The circle can be any size, depending on how large or small you wish to make your peace sign.

    • 2

Draw a vertical line through the center of the circle.

    • 3

Draw an upside-down "V" in the middle of the circle. The point of the upside-down "V" should be at the center of the vertical line. Both ends of the upside-down "V" must touch an edge of the circle.

Tips & Warnings

  • To get a perfect circle, trace the bottom of a cup, can, coin or other round object. Or, use a compass.

  • Use a ruler or any object with a straight edge to get perfectly straight lines.

  • The peace sign is not copyrighted. You can use it freely in published work.
