How to Make a Rubber Stamp Using Mouse Pads
Replace that old mouse pad if you want, but don't throw the old one away just yet. You can make your own durable rubber stamp using a design that you like or use a design of your own creation. All you need is that old mouse pad and a few basic household items.
Things You'll Need
- Block of wood
- Sandpaper (optional)
- Crafter's knife
- Mouse pad
- Pre-made template or sheet of lightweight cardboard
- Tracing paper

1
Prepare the base of your stamp. Retrieve a small block of wood, making sure the edges are smooth for easy handling. Use sandpaper to smooth the wood if necessary. Turn the mouse pad face down and set the block on top of it. Using a sharp pencil, outline the edges of the block on the pad. Cut the mouse pad to the size of your block using a crafter's knife.

2
Set the block and the remnant of your mouse pad aside. Choose a design image for your stamp. Draw or transfer the design onto a piece of light to medium weight cardboard, using tracing paper if needed. Use a crafter's knife to cut out the design and make a cardboard template.

Set your design template on top of the mouse pad that you cut out in Step 1. Center the design and trace it onto the mouse pad using a pen or very sharp pencil. Set the template aside and, using a craft knife, cut your stamp design out of the mouse pad. Trim the edges and detail as neatly as possible.

4
Glue the mouse pad design to the block of wood with household glue. When the glue is partially dry, turn the stamp over and press it down lightly to set the stamp evenly on the wood block, then turn it face up. Let the stamp dry overnight before use.
