How to Stop a Text Message on Your Cell Phone

There is an easy way to stop unwanted text messages.

There are many companies out there that can trick you into signing up for text messages. Sometimes, you might get text messages without even knowing you've signed up for a service. These might be free, but sometimes they might not. You might enjoy them, but you also might find them annoying. If you want to stop receiving texts from companies or people you don't know, there is an easy way to stop them.

Instructions

1. Look at the texts you receive. Is there a company name or program name on it? If there is, type that name into a search engine on an Internet browser on your computer to find the company or program website.

2. Look through the company or program website until you find a page or section on "Canceling Service." It should tell you something to text in reply to one of their texts to you, such as "Stop."

3. Follow the directions and text the word or phrase you've found in reply to the last text you received. If it works, you should get a cancellation confirmation.

4. Alternatively, if you cannot find the company or program online, try texting words such as "Stop" or "Cancel" to numbers that are sending you texts if you don't want them.

Tips & Warnings

• Many texts you get come with instructions right in the text message about how to stop getting texts. Follow them.

• As a last resort, talk to your cell phone provider, because they can make sure you are not signed up for any services.

• You can also try blocking the phone number that is sending you specific texts. Go through your cell phone provider to make sure this is done legally and correctly. But be aware that if a company is texting you, they might use different numbers.
