There are many places online where you can create free custom Web pages. Many people want a personal Web page to share personal information and photos with friends and family. Others might want to publish information about their businesses or services. Creating your own free custom Web pages is fast if you have the right tools.

Instructions

      Log on to the Internet and go to Tripod.com. Click on the button that says "Try It Free."

      Register your free account with Tripod on the next page. Fill in all the required fields.

      Check your email account for a confirmation email from Tripod that your account has been set up. Click the link in the confirmation email to register fully, then return to Tripod.

      Click on the "Site Building" tab on the top left. In the next window, click on the hyperlink for WebOn that says, "Try it and amaze yourself!"

      Click on the cream-colored "Site Building" tab to open the WebOn Interface.

      Click on the words "My Website" to retitle your new home page for your new site.

      Click on the words, "My website's subheading" if you wish to add a subheading; otherwise just delete it.

      Edit the text in the area that says, "This is your main content section." Either type it in, or copy and paste the content from your word processing document into the box. Press the green "Save" button on the top right.

      Edit the sidebar text on the right, where it says, "This is your sidebar." Either type in the text or copy and paste the content from your word processing document into the box. Press the green "Save" button on the top right.

      Review your content for any typing errors and edit as needed. If you wish to add bold, italics or colors, highlight the text you wish to change and use the menu just above the page you are creating. Click on your choice -- for example, B for Bold -- to make the changes. Save the file.

      Click "Styles," the third button from the right at the top of the editor panel. If you wish to have an attractive background for your page, click one of the styles to change the appearance of the page. Save.

      Click "Add Ons," the fourth button from the right at the top of the editor panel. To add a Guest Book, Calendar, or any of the other items in this menu to your page, click on the item of choice -- for instance, the Guest Book. You will notice that your cursor will change from a straight line to a four-point arrow. Hold down your mouse on the Guest Book icon, then drag and drop it onto the page or the sidebar. Repeat until you have located the Guest Book in the desired location.

      Choose any other items you wish from the Add On menu. Drag and drop each one onto the page and then position it using the Drag and Drop arrows. You may also reorder the items on the page in the same way. Click Save when you are finished.

      To add pictures, audio, or video, click on the button for each one, and drag and drop them onto the website. Upload your media from your desktop using the browse button, locating the picture you want to upload, and clicking the button to upload each item. Repeat for each item you wish to add to your page. Save.

      When you have made all the changes to your page, click "Publish" on the top right to publish the page on the Internet.

      Give the URL of the new site to your friends and family.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you wish to create more pages, click on the button that says Home on the top left of the page. The dropdown menu that appears will give you the choice "Create New Page."

  • You can also post your Twitter feeds and YouTube videos through the Add On menu.

  • You may wish to learn more about HTML to customize your page even further.

  • Your URL will have the name Tripod in it; for example, yourname.tripod.com. If you are planning to run a business from your site, you might wish to purchase Tripod's premium domain and hosting services.
