How to Calculate How Far I Hit the Golf Ball
Most golfers enjoy knowing how far they can hit the golf ball. In fact, knowing how far you can hit the ball with a specific club is important in determining strategy and knowing which club to use for a particular shot. Unfortunately, there isn't any mathematical formula for calculating exactly how far you can hit the golf ball. There are general guidelines regarding how far an amateur or pro should be able to hit say, a driver or six-iron, but you'll need to get out on the course or driving range to find out exactly what your distances are.

Calculate the distances manually using on-course markers. Choose a time when the golf course isn't busy and you won't be holding up play. Stand on a tee box and look around for a yardage marker indicating the distance to the middle of the green. Make note of the yardage by writing it down. Now hit a good golf shot, preferably in the fairway. Drive or walk to your ball. Use on-course markers to determine the distance remaining to the center of the green. Subtract the distance remaining from the yardage you determined while on the tee box. This number represents how far you hit the ball. Make note of the number. Repeat, when possible, until you arrive at a consistent average.

Find a golf driving range with targets placed in various spots, with the yardages to the targets provided by the facility. Start hitting balls to the various targets with different clubs. Make notes as you notice which clubs enable you to land balls within a few yards of a specific target. Make note of the distance and the club. Repeat until you establish a pattern.

Spot targets on a golf driving range and use a golf rangefinder to confirm the distances. Hit balls to the target, and make notes as you track your distances.
