How to Prevent Water Waste
Conserving water helps in protecting a natural resource that is needed to sustain life. Water conservation is an important step in protecting the environment as well as lowering your utility bills. When you use less water your water bill will naturally drop. Also, the less water you use, the less water your hot water tank will heat so you will see a decrease in your gas or energy bill as well. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1
Check faucets, pipes and toilets for leaks. Leaks can waste 20 gallons or more of water a day.
-
2
Switch to baths instead of showers. Filling a bath tub partially full uses less water than most showers.
-
-
3
Put some pebbles or sand in a couple of plastic bottles and fill them with water. Place the plastic bottles inside your toilet tank. Keep them away from the operating mechanisms. Doing this could save 10 gallons of water a day.
-
4
Keep the water off while brushing your teeth. After you wet your toothbrush, fill a glass so you can rinse your mouth and turn the water off.
-
5
Fill two sinks full of water when washing dishes instead of leaving the water running.
-
6
Keep bottles of water in your refrigerator for drinking. Use them instead of running the faucet for water.
-
7
Water your lawn and plants in the early morning when it's cooler. Also, do not over water your lawn or plants.
-
8
Use a bucket of soapy water to wash your car instead of running the water hose. Use the hose only to rinse off the car.
-
9
Keep your sprinkler path free of obstructions. Sprinklers that shoot on trees, fences or other objects are wasting water.
-
10
Plant trees and plants that are drought-resistant. These plants will require less watering.
-
11
Place a layer of mulch around trees and plants. The mulch will trap and hold moisture and will keep weeds from growing.
