How to Draw Kitchen Countertops
Drawing kitchen counters is a useful skill to learn. Use the drawings to design a dream kitchen, then show it to contractors to help communicate clearly what you want. If an old kitchen needs revamping, adding new countertops is a quick fix. However, getting a free estimate is not as simple as it used to be. A detailed drawing of the kitchen counters is now required to get a free estimate by phone or email. Save time and money by learning how to draw a layout of your kitchen counters.

1
Using a pencil, draw the counters as they appear in the kitchen design you have or desire on graph paper using basic squares and rectangles. Include any bars or islands in the kitchen. Use the ruler to make sure the lines are straight. The drawing does not need to be to scale but its important that it is proportional.
-
2
Label large appliances and objects that sit on the counters. This will help when writing measurements on the page.
-
-
3
Mark all exposed edges with an "x". An exposed edge the side of the counter that faces into the room. An island has four exposed edges.
-
4
Draw and label any cutouts that appear in the counter space. A cutout is any place where the countertop is interrupted by an object. Stoves and sinks are good examples of kitchen counter cutouts.

5
If you are drawing existing counters on the graph paper, use measuring tape to accurately measure the height, width and depth of the existing counters with the measuring tape. Write the measurements next to the corresponding counters in the drawing. Measure all cutouts and write these measurements on the paper as well. If you are designing custom counters, write in the desired measurements on their corresponding drawn counters.
