Transform your Christmas cards into boxes.

Recycling your old Christmas cards will help reduce the guilt of throwing them away. Once you make a box with an old Christmas card, you can use it to store items or as a gift box. Making a box out of Christmas cards does not require many materials, but you will need to be precise and patient in order to ensure that the cards look attractive as boxes.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the Christmas card in half along the fold.

    • 2

Mark the areas on the printed card where you need to score. Turn the printed side over so that you see the unprinted side. Mark the scoring guides by measuring 1 ¼ inch from each edge of the card. Connect the measurements so that you have lines approximately 1 1/4 inch each way from the edges of the card.

    • 3

Score the card with a scoring tool or stylus. Score all four sides of the card. You will notice small squares in each corner of the card after you score.

    • 4

Make small flaps on all four sides. Cut the scored line beside each of the scored squares in the corner. This vertical scored line runs into a horizontal scored line. Cut each of these vertical lines next to the scored squares down to the horizontal line.

    • 5

Position the cut squares inside the card. The folded squares are now tabs that will help form the box. Position these tabs inside the box so that they overlap the top and bottom flaps.

    • 6

Glue the square tabs to the flaps to form the walls.

    • 7

Fold and score the other side of the Christmas card in the same fashion. Cut this half of the card ¼ of an inch smaller so that the two halves fit together.
