Stacking firewood in a circle is one method of storing wood during seasonal periods. This method works best because it helps dry out the wood, relieving it of the moisture that was contained in the bark before it was split. Stacking firewood in this way does take concentration because some preparation is needed and the physical aspect of stacking the wood can be exhausting. Overall, this method of stacking wood is excellent because it helps create good burning firewood and reduces space.

Instructions

    • 1

Designate an area to stack the wood. The best location is away from trees and other structures and where there is direct sunlight.

    • 2

Stick a wood pole in the ground. This will be a reference point as to where to stack the wood.

    • 3

Place pieces of wood in a circle about two feet from the pole to form the base of the stack.

    • 4

Lay pieces of wood on top of the base, increasing the height and inserting smaller pieces of wood, called "shims," periodically across the outer edges to keep the firewood tilted toward the center.

    • 5

Fill the interior space with firewood standing upright. This will help create a chimney effect causing air to be pulled upward, helping accelerate the drying process.

    • 6

Continue the stacking and vertical-filling process until about five feet of wood has been stacked. The final two feet of stacking should not use any shims. Place pieces of firewood on top of the stack with the bark facing outward.
