How to Upgrade an Operating System From Windows 2000 to Windows XP
Upgrading from Windows 2000 to Windows XP is a big jump in the world of operating systems. Many features were added in XP that were unavailable in 2000. Windows 2000 can only be upgraded to the Professional edition of Windows XP, but the upgrade is simple and takes less than an hour.

Turn on the computer and insert the Windows XP Professional Upgrade CD-ROM into your computer's hard drive.

Wait for the disc to auto-run. If for some reason it does not, push the Start button and find My Computer. Select the CD-ROM drive and click it twice. The setup program should begin to run.

Follow the instructions on the screen. Windows will analyze your system and ask you some questions. Hit the Next button to continue the process.

Watch as Windows upgrades your system. There will be a progress bar and an explanation of what is being done at each interval. This can be a lengthy process. You may want to carry on with other activities and just check in on it every once in a while.

Reboot the computer per the instructions. When your computer comes back up, it will be running Windows XP for the first time.

Set up the time zone, date, and other such options as Windows requests them. This is a one-time setup process that you will not have to complete again.
