How to Find the Gems in Pokemon FireRed
“Pokemon: FireRed” has several different features that are unlocked by completing Celio’s quest to repair Bill’s Machine. This quest requires the player to find two gems, the Ruby and Sapphire. Completing this quest will allow the player to trade Pokemon to and from “Pokemon: Ruby,” “Pokemon: Sapphire” and “Pokemon: Coliseum.” In addition, Cerulean Cave, the home of Mewtwo, becomes accessible once Bill’s Machine is fixed. This quest is not available until after the Elite Four are defeated.

Talk to Celio and agree to help him repair Bill’s Machine. He needs two gems to repair the machine. He will not offer this quest until after the player has defeated the Elite Four in “Pokemon: FireRed.” Celio can be found in the Pokemon Center on One Island.

Go to Mt. Ember on One Island. Just follow Kindle Road north to reach it.

Defeat the Rocket Grunts located outside a cave entrance. This entrance is at the base of the mountain on the east side of the map. This will be a very easy fight at this point in the game.

Follow the cave behind the Rocket Grunts. Take the south pathway at the fork in the path. The Strength skill will be needed to move any rocks in the way of the path. At the very end of the path you will find the first gem, the Ruby.

Give the Ruby to Celio. He will change the Tri-Pass into the Rainbow Pass, which will allow you to go to more islands.

Go to Four Island.

Use Surf to enter the water on the east side of the island. Cross the water to the entrance to Icefall Cave.

Walk through the cave until you encounter Lorelai and Team Rocket Grunts.

Defeat the Team Rocket Grunt that challenges you.

Go to Six Island.

Go to Altering Cave. It is located on the far north side of the island.

Walk through Altering Cave until you see a cutscene. The second gem, the Sapphire, will be stolen by Team Rocket. You will also get the password for the Rocket Warehouse.

Go to the Rocket Warehouse on Five Island. It is the large orange building directly east from the dock. You cannot enter this building without the password from Altering Cave.

Defeat Scientist Gideon in the Rocket Warehouse. You will receive the Sapphire once you do. Scientist Gideon and all of the other Team Rocket members should be easy to defeat at this point in the game.

Return to Celio to give him the second gem so he can fix Bill’s Machine.

“Pokemon: FireRed” and “Pokemon: LeafGreen” are different versions of the same game. The gems are obtained in the same manner in both games.
