How to Remove Scratches from Stainless Steel With a Clear Coat
Stainless steel is an extremely durable, tough and corrosion-resistant material used for various purposes. The adaptable quality of stainless steel make it an indispensable material in construction, industry, engineering, medicine and many other fields. Stainless steel, however, even if it has a clear coating can get scratched. Fortunately, minor scratches of stainless steel with clear coat can easily be fixed with a help of a few simple tools.

1
Inspect the scratches and check if they are merely surface scratches in the clear coat or deeper cuts through the steel itself. If the scratches are too severe and deep, you will have to use sandpaper or even a circular tool to remove the scratches. If only the clear coat is scratched, you can remove the scratch using finishing pads.

2
Remove the scratch from the stainless steel with a circular polisher to if the scratches are severe. Hold the polisher at a small angle toward the surface. Move the polisher around the scratched area of the stainless steel.

3
Rub the scratch with fine-grit sandpaper, using straight movements along the stainless steel surface. Do not put too much pressure on the sandpaper and rub only with enough force to fade away the scratch.
-
4
Wipe and rub the scratch with a wool finishing pad if the scratch is only on the clear coat of the stainless steel. Be gentle and follow the pattern of the stainless steel surface as you rub the wool pad. The tough side of the wool pad will even out the scratch with the rest of the surface.

5
Wipe and rub the stainless steel surface with a foam finishing pad. This will smooth the surface of the stainless steel and make the scratch almost invisible.
-
6
Clean the scratch area of the stainless steel with a soft, microfiber cloth and a stainless steel cleaner. Rub the stainless steel surface with the cloth. This step will buff and shine the stainless steel.
