Instructions

    • 1

Wash your hair. It is easiest to style thick hair into a proper military-approved hairstyle when it is freshly washed and still damp.

    • 2

Smooth your hair back into a military-approved hairstyle. The most popular style is a bun, but if your hair is not long enough for a bun, a ponytail or a bob will work as well.

    • 3

Add product to your hair to keep it in place. Styling creme or gel work best for thick hair, but hairspray or mousse will work in a pinch.

    • 4

Lock your hair into place with snap-in hair clips. For thick hair, it is best to place clips at your temples, or just above your ears to keep the hair out of your face.

    • 5

Pin flyaway hair at the temples or nape of the neck in place using hairpins.

Tips & Warnings

  • Hairpins and clips must be the same color as your hair, according to military regulation. It is easy to find inexpensive black, brown and clear hair accessories at drug and department stores.
