How to Make Colonial Sock Dolls
Colonial sock dolls are small, easy to make toys that children of any age will love. For teachers, making colonial sock dolls is an interactive and entertaining activity that can supplement a history-based lesson plan in the classroom. For parents, it’s a cheap after school activity that takes nothing more than an old sock and leftover art supplies.

1
Stuff one to two handfuls of cotton balls into the toe of your sock and tie off with a piece of ribbon or yarn to create the head. Pack it tightly and fluff if necessary to create a round and lump-free sphere.
-
2
Cut several small pieces of felt in the shape of eyes, a nose, a mouth and any other facial features you may want to add. Use crazy glue to attach them to the head to create a face. Draw on eyelashes, freckles and any other small features you want with a permanent marker.

3
Braid two small 3-inch sections of yarn and tie off at the bottom. Glue to the top of your doll head for girl’s hair. To create boy hair, cut off several 1-inch lengths of yarn and glue each one individually to the head.
-
4
Fill the rest of the sock with four or five handfuls of cotton balls to form the body, then tie the sock off at the hem with ribbon or yarn. Glue a piece of felt or cloth to the body to serve as clothing.
-
5
Use buttons, cloth scraps and other small items to decorate your doll’s clothing. Let dry completely before use.
