How to Start Your Own Clothing Line Blog
One of the keys to having a successful clothing line is demonstrating to potential customers that your clothing is always inspired and on trend. An effective way to accomplish this is to create an online interactive presence that promotes your line. Starting a blog is one of the least expensive ways to promote your clothing, and can be rewarding, as it offers the opportunity for customer feedback.

1
Send the signal that you are a professional clothing designer by choosing your own domain name and paying to have it hosted, rather than using a free blogging service. Free hosting will make you appear amateurish. Find domain names and hosting at bluehost.com, dreamhost.com and a variety of other companies.
-
2
Hire a professional web designer to customize your blog. You must be as serious about the blog design as you are about your clothing line, as your blog is your online face to the world.

3
Set up pages on your blog. You'll need a contact page as well as an "About" page. Ask the web designer to put in a contact form on the contact page so that your email and address are not available to spammers. Craft a paragraph or two for your "About" page that details the history of your company, source of inspiration and plans for the future.
-
4
Work on setting up a press page. Post photos of the magazine spreads your clothes have been featured in, along with links to those magazines. This gives you cachet. If you don't have press, make the press notice you. Write press releases and send them to newspapers and magazines with photos and/or samples of your work.
-
5
Create pages for each line you have produced. Each page should have plenty of professional-quality photographs of the clothing.
-
6
Update the main page of your blog at least twice a week to maintain people's interest. Include new items being added to a line, stories and photos of items that have inspired you and any relevant video.
-
7
Think of a gimmick that will attract people to your blog. Take a page from Prada and offer people audio postcards. (See Reference 1) Hire a developer to make an interactive paper doll for your site. Offer free fashion digital wallpaper. Put surveys on your blog. The more interactive your blog is---and the more it offers to potential customers---the more successful it will be, according to published blogger Leo Babauta of Zen Habits fame. (See Reference 2)

8
Promote your blog. Place links to Facebook, Twitter and any other social networking sites you use. Create a Facebook fan page for your clothing line and use it to tell people about updates to your line or blog. Put your blog's URL on your business cards, as well as the clothing tags. If you have an Etsy store or other online sales outlet, place your blog's link in a prominent place.
