How to Clean EPNS on Silver Utensils

EPNS, or electroplated nickel silver, consists of a nickel and brass alloy plated with a thin silver coating. Clean your plated silver utensils with care, as the plating can scratch easily when the wrong tools and products are used. Use mild dish soap to wash and remove tarnish in seconds without scrubbing.

Things You'll Need

• Dish soap, phosphate-free
• Sponge or cloth
• Aluminum foil
• Baking soda
• Soft towel

Instructions

1. Fill a sink with warm water and a small amount of dish soap. Wash the silver utensils with a sponge or cloth and rinse with clean water. Drain the sink of the soapy water.

2. Plug the sink and then place a sheet of aluminum foil along the bottom. Fill the sink halfway with hot water and 1/2 cup of baking soda.

3. Submerge the silver, making sure each piece touches a part of the foil. Leave for 15 seconds or until any tarnish is gone.

4. Remove the utensils from the water and rinse them thoroughly. Dry them well with a soft towel.
